Jamaican artist Ebony G. Patterson struck a note in both the artistic and fashion world with her current exhibition ‘...while the dew is still on the roses...” at the Pérez Art Museum Miami. Patterson’s participation in Art Basel 2018 (December 6 - 9) was underwritten by Christian Louboutin.

“We come to pause, to bear witness and to acknowledge.” Patterson said of the exhibition to WWD magazine. She also noted that the installation features the signature elements of her practice: highly embellished objects, flowers, and glitter.

Ebony G Patterson in her early garden exploration at Jamaica Biennial 2012Patterson explained to WWD that almost five years she has been exploring gardens and their relationship to post colonial spaces.  “I am interested in how gardens — natural but cultivated settings — operate with social demarcations. I investigate their relationship to beauty, dress, class, race, the body, land and death,” Patterson said.

The PAMM exhibition is Patterson’s largest to date. Showcasing 13 of her works, including six pieces created for PAMM, it presents a survey of her most recent work. The exhibition includes drawings, tapestries and videos.

“Christian Louboutin worked with me to build out an environment that acknowledges the breadth of my work, that acknowledges bodies and sites, that uses pageantry and beauty to create presence,” Patterson also said. A piece of Patterson’s work will also be on display at the Christian Louboutin Design District boutique.

‘...while the dew is still on the roses...’ opened to the public on November 9 and also featured a special event at PAMM on December 4, hosted by PAMM director Franklin Sirmans and Swizz Beatz.
